
A house fire broke out near Stanley on Blacksnake Road
Gaston County, North Carolina, sending two people to the hospital. Officials later confirmed the victims were the parents of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.
Fire crews responded to the home northeast of Stanley after reports that one person might be trapped inside. By the end of the incident, two individuals had been transported to a hospital. Their conditions have not been released.
According to the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department, the fire completely destroyed the home. Firefighters faced challenges due to a limited water supply, causing the blaze to take nearly two hours to extinguish.
Gaston County officials said the investigation into the cause of the fire will continue into Monday.
David Toomey, chief of the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department, confirmed the home belongs to Hamlin’s parents. Public records show the property is owned by a company managed by Hamlin.
Hamlin has not publicly commented on the incident.
Several Gaston County fire departments assisted the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department in responding to the fire.
